From EATERS directors Luca Boni and Marco Ristori, Zombie Massacre is based on the video game of the same name developed by Benjamin Krotin's 1988Games. In the film, a bacteriological weapon developed by the US Government to create super soldiers turns a small town in Eastern Europe into horribly mutated zombie creatures. To wipe them out, a team of commando mercenaries are sent in to detonate an atomic bomb in the town's nuclear plant.
Clearly, Zombie Massacre is going to have all the limitations seen in the kinds of low-budget fare that come out from distributors like The Asylum, but something tells me that Zombie Massacre is going to rise above all that. Maybe it's the makeup. Maybe it's the attachment of Boni and Ristori who, by looking at the trailer for EATERS (view it here), seem to have a flair for the gory. I don't know. I usually don't get my hopes up about anything this low budget, especially if it has Uwe Boll's name attached, but I'm going to keep a keen eye on Zombie Massacre.
